Pat Noble, the Socialist Party USA candidate for Freeholder in Monmouth County, has formally registered as a candidate for the 2011 November election. Election laws require 100 valid signatures for an independent candidate to petition for ballot access for Freeholder, with valid signatures meaning individuals who are both county residents and registered voters. On June 7th, 2011, Noble turned in over 100 valid signatures to Monmouth County’s Clerk of Elections.

The Socialist Party of Monmouth and Ocean Counties (SPMOC) nominated Noble in a unanimous vote for the office of Freeholder in April of 2011. The SPMOC is a local of the Socialist Party of New Jersey (SPNJ), which is the state affiliate of the Socialist Party USA (SPUSA). Due to rigid electoral laws regarding political parties, the SPNJ is not a recognized political party by the State of New Jersey. As a result, Noble is officially an independent candidate.  However, independent candidates are allowed to select up to three words to put on the ballot next to their name to describe their political affiliation or platform. Next to Noble’s name on the ballot in the November elections will be “Socialist Party USA”.

Commenting on the successful petition to get his name on the ballot, Noble said,

“It’s really a monumental thing, to know that over 100 people said to themselves ‘hey, I want to give this guy the chance to possibly become one of my representatives on the county-level.’ That was something that I heard from a lot of people, that they were happy to have another option to vote for besides the Republican and Democratic candidates. Now that the ballot requirements are completed, I’m ready for this campaign to really begin, and I truly believe that the people of Monmouth County are ready for a Socialist candidate as well.”

While the exact date is not yet confirmed, Noble has said that several campaign events will be posted on the campaign website in the near future. Past events that Noble has attended include a speech/Q&A to the Bayshore Tea Party Group (at their invitation), as well as the 20th Annual LGBTI Pride Celebration in Asbury Park this past Sunday, June 5th. Noble has also been a guest on the Local Burner, a segment of Underground Progresive Radio.

Ballot Access Signatures Needed

With the ballot signature petition due date of June 7th a little over a month away, we are working quickly to surpass the 100-valid signature requirement needed to have my name on the ballot for Monmouth County Freeholder in November. Valid signatures means that the individuals are Monmouth County residents and registered voters in the county.

I am confident that we will reach this goal of gaining over 100-valid signatures. That being said, it cannot be done without your help. Ballot access can only be obtained if people in the community are willing to let their voice be heard and sign the petition to get my name onto the ballot. Democracy is not a spectator sport, and this is no exception. Signing the petition puts Monmouth County one step closer to having a new choice on the ballot.

If you are interested in signing the petition to help get my name on the Freeholder ballot and you are a Monmouth County registered voter, I ask that you please contact me at votepatnoble@yahoo.com. If you want to sign, we will work around your schedule to make it happen.

Thanks everyone, and I look forward to hearing from you.

-Pat Noble

Pat Noble, the Socialist Party USA candidate for Freeholder in Monmouth County, has been invited to speak to the Bayshore Tea Party Group on Tuesday, April 26th. The Bayshore Tea Party Group has previously invited several Republican candidates to speak with them. Democratic incumbent Amy Mallet, who is up for re-election this year, did not accept their invitation.

The Bayshore Tea Party Group, founded by Barbara Gonzalez and based in Middletown, NJ, has been involved in pushing socioeconomic conservative issues in the area. Their website, www.bayshoreteaparty.org, says that their mission is to promote limited government, fiscal responsibility, and free markets.

While Noble has openly admitted “massive differences” between his democratic socialist beliefs and the beliefs of the Tea Party movement, he also said that “I am very willing to come and speak to any group that invites me to do so, regardless of whether their beliefs are similar or different to my own.”

The event will be held on April 26th, 2011, at 7pm. It will be at the Bayshore Tea Party Group headquarters at 275 Route 35 in Middletown, NJ. The meeting is open to the public and all are invited to attend.
